This is a card reader. It is one of many that a person could own. You may have one that only takes one type of card. You may have one that takes many types of cards. Yours might even be built into your computer. This tutorial will assume that you have this type (USB).  If you do not own a USB card reader, the only part of the tutorial that would be different is how to insert the card. Everything else as far as transferring pictures goes should be essentially the same.

This card reader has a little slot in the side that the card will slide into. It only goes in one way so if you don't force it, you won't break anything. The card more than likely is going to stick out a little bit just like its shown in the picture. After you have inserted the card into the card reader, go ahead and plug it into one of the USB ports on your computer. Most new computers have some conveniently located in the front as well as having some in the back. Just like the card, it goes in one way, so don't force it and you will be fine.

After you have connected the card reader to the computer, give the computer a few moments to detect the card reader and install the software (especially if its the first time ever being used.) The computer will probably have little bubbles appearing in the bottom left corner stating how its found new hardware and when its ready to be used

If you have an older computer, there may be a CD that came with your card reader that you will need to use to manually install the software. Just follow the instructions that came with the card reader to install the software if needed.

To access your card reader you must open "My Computer." This is either going to be on your desktop or in the "Start" Menu.
